Providing lake views and a garden, Chuzenji Pension offers accommodation in a prime location in Nikko, within a short distance of Kegon Falls, Chuzenji Lake and Chuzenji Temple. The owner gave us a syperb room with lake view. The meals are so delicious and the staffs are so welcoming.

Set just 36 km from Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort, Minakamisansou features accommodation in Minakami with access to an open-air bath, a shared lounge, as well as a lift. Rarely write reviews but the experience at Minakami Sansou highly exceeded our expectations. The hospitality was excellent, the rooms clean and beautiful, the hot spring was perfect, and on top of that the food was also well proportioned and delicious. Would stay here again next time we come to Minakami.

Situated in Kusatsu in the Gunma region, Soumeian features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Excellent seasonal and varied breakfast options, with an attention to detail unparalleled in my travel experience. The soaking pools met our hopes and needs perfectly, and we preferred the private rooms to any of the town’s public onsens. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and the location was great—away from the hustle and bustle of the main square. Staff were incredible—helpful, welcoming, and friendly despite our limited Japanese language skills! Would highly recommend for a quiet, peaceful stay.

Set 36 km from Ishidan-gai Steps, Sekizenkan Kashotei Sanso offers 4-star accommodation in Nakanojo and has an open-air bath. We loved everything about Sekizenkan. Our room has the best view! We enjoyed our hot tub in the evening while it was 4°c outside. The 11-course dinner was beyond our expectations. Both delicious and beautiful presentations. We love the lounge area also - the drinks, ice cream, and cookies the guests get to choose from and enjoy.

Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. This place is just on the top of my ranking. A real Japanese experience with all the necessary detail to make the stay unforgettable. The different baths super clean and with history. The meals offered were delightful. And the environment just as needed, calm, serene and peaceful.

Oyado Tamaki offers indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and a traditional garden with benches where guests can sit and relax in. Staffs are very nice, friendly, and very service-minded. I lost my ring in the onsen and the next morning, when asked about it, they are able to return it to me.

Boasting hot spring baths in a spectacular outdoor setting by Takaragawa River, Japanese-style hotel Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku is a 10-minute drive from Hodaigi Ski Resort. We came here specifically for the onsen experience. And yes, it was the most wonderful experience for me of coming to Japan. It was snowing and we bathed in the onsen and I was very thankful for the whole experience of just being able to witness snow falling while my body bathed in that wonderful onsen. Then there's the food, the food is amazing! I have never eaten Japanese food like that. The taste and the combination of flavors just really left us in awe. It was a really nice meal and we appreciate that the dining tables were separated from each guest which made the whole setting a bit more private. Then there's the rooms. You have this huge room that I think would be better if we had a bigger family, but I do love that it has this area where you can view the river and the snow and just drink tea. The heater worked wonderfully and we didn't feel cold at all. I do love that it is also full tatami in the hotel and we walked around in assigned slippers throughout the place. And if you're wondering, yes they do provide the yukata and bathing clothes.
